We're all mad here....

Madness, sheer madness. That's what it was like today checking out nine, count 'em NINE, apartments in Grinnell. That's after spending a large chunk of yesterday making something like twenty phone calls. I think I know which place I'm going to choose, I just have to sleep on it and clear up some minor details before making it official. After that I may post a little more about the place. Moving would take place this weekend. Only 8 days till work starts. Madness.

Victory, at last

After many months of unemployment, I have received two job offers since last Friday.

After much contemplation, I accepted one this afternoon (the one in Grinnell for those who know me).

I will be waiting at the bottom and I am very patient...

I've got another interview at RuffaloCODY on Wednesday afternoon. Send good thoughts please.

There has been a lone goose, of a species I'm not familiar with, hanging around the pond the last couple of weeks with all the other ducks and Canadian geese. It's mostly white, bigger than the Canadians, and is rather noisy. And it's a freakin' bully. It follows along the other geese in an intimidating fashion much of the time. It's name from here on out will be, Bully Goose.

The built-in spell ckecker for Blogger didn't like the word "freakin'" above. It's top choice for an alternative was "foreskin". I don't know if Bully Goose is a foreskin bully, however, so I will leave it as "freakin'" for now. Thanks for the suggest Blogger.

I need a haircut.

Here's an update on the job front:
* I heard back from ACT finally by postal mail. Didn't get it.
* I called RuffaloCODY again yesterday. The job I interviewed for is on an indefinite hold (budget issues). I wasn't likely to get it anyway, cause they needed someone with more Java experience. There is another new opening there that I may be in the running for. It might require another interview (I'm guessing) because the position is under a different manager.
* I called Grinnell Mutual again today. No decisions have been made yet for either position I interviewed for there. Plus there is a new opening that they might want me to interview for again in the next week or two. This is what I'm most excited about currently. Second interviews are always a good thing.
* And of course I'm still applying for openings online when I find something good.

Blown off, it would seem

"I don’t want you to try to talk another person into staying with you, loving you, calling you, caring about you, coming to see you, staying attached to you....."

So early last summer I met a girl at a bar, and we went on about a date and a half before she decided she wasn't ready to get involved with anyone at that time. She had just broken up with her long-term boyfriend a few weeks previously and was still conflicted about it. There was another odd reason or two as well. I'm not sure how much of it I really buy. We parted the last time we saw each other on friendly terms, though.

Maybe a month after I moved to Coralville I gave her a call to say hi, let her know I'd moved to the area (she had moved to Iowa City a few weeks before we met), and suggest we hang out (just as friends) sometime since I knew very few people down here. We didn't make any plans at that time since it was more a call just to catch up. Anyway...in the many months since then I've tried getting a hold of her on multiple occasions, even left messages on some of those occasions, but have never talked or heard back from her. Strange. Not quite sure what to think about it. I tried emailing her a little over a week ago to see if that might work better.

It hasn't yet.....so I think I'll take the advice of the above quote that was part of a forward I got a day or two ago. If she's intentionally ignoring me, which is very likely, I know there is no good reason why and that I damn well don't deserve it. If she doesn't actually want to see or talk to me ever again, have the common courteousy to just say so. I guess some people just don't have the guts. It's just rude. Argh.

It's kinda surprising I don't use this blog to vent more often. I guess that's just not really me.

It'll be great! (spoken in a heavy Irish accent)

I think St. Patrick's Day is one of the better holidays. It is widely celebrated but has not (yet) been completely overrun with commercialism. It allows us all to celebrate our Irish heritage. Except I, like many if not most people, do not have any Irish heritage. I do, however, have English, Scottish, Welsh, and French heritage (also Danish and German for those keeping track) which means that I have them well surrounded from all nearby landmasses. I dare them to try and stop me from celebrating.

It happens to fall on a Friday this year (it's March 17th if you didn't know). I see this as an excellent opportunity to go up to Ames, see my friends there, and patronize a drinking establishment in Campustown for the evening. As most of the regular readership of this blog fit in the categories of "friends" and "live in Ames" you can now comment on this exciting proposition.
