We don't need no thought control.

This past weekend I was up in Ames once again. I went to a couple of musical performances (Willy Porter @ the M Shop, Hello Dave @ People's) with friends and had a great time. I really enjoyed the chance to hang and kick back with many of my closest friends. It's something that doesn't happen often enough.

On my drive back on Sunday I stopped in Ankeny to see the 3Ms. Mini M is over a year old now and is becoming quite mobile. And is as cute as a button. We all know how cute buttons are. All is well with Big M and Little eM as well. The two wells in that last sentence make it really weird.

My two interviews last week were fine....still no news from either company yet. Today I got a call for an interview at ACT (as in the testing organization). It will be on Friday here in Coralville. I also got an email from Iowa State to set up an interview for next week sometime. However, the primary development language for the position is COBOL.....so I'm gonna have to think about if I'll do that one.

This is pretty damn funny for the mathematically-inclined of you out there.

Go State

With a popular blog on ESPN.com, a book deal, and now a comedy pilot on Fox that is quasi-based on his life (no, he's not actually starring in it), former ISU basketball player Paul Shirley is becoming a master of all media (if not a master of basketball). You can go to ESPN.com and type in "Paul Shirley" to read all his journal entries. It's some amusing stuff. I think his higher than average intelligence for a pro basketball player, as evidenced by his ACT score of 35 and degree in engineering from ISU, makes his observations and dialogue on life in pro ball more interesting than those of a NBA superstar would be. Keep up the good work, Paul.

I forgot to mention in my last post that my fancy new masthead comes courtesy of Lost Minutes. Thanks.

Cross your fingers and toes for me!

I've been MIA lately, but with pretty good reason. I had an interview yesterday afternoon at Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company in Grinnell. It was a 3-part, two and a quarter hour marathon of an interview (for two different positions). I feel it went fine and hope to get a positive response from them sometime soon. On top of that I got a call this morning from RuffaloCODY in Cedar Rapids where I was previously interviewed back in May. I have another interview there on Friday morning now. So I'll be trying to finish up the freaking huge Java book I've been reading by the end of the week and do any other preparation I need to for this interview.

If you like David Hasselhoff (or even if you don't) and absolute absurdity, then I highly recommend watching this clip.

And just for good measure here is another crazy, but cool and fairly amazing video. (Brought to you by way of Chris [and Google].)

When Cameron was in Egypt's land, let my Cameron go

I went running mid-afternoon today at the rec center across the park from where I live. I normally go pretty late in the afternoon. Being that it was mid-afternoon it was obviously not dark outside for my walk over and back like it normally is. Because of this the large flock of Canadian geese that hang out around the pond during daylight hours had not yet left for the night. By the time of my walk back to my condo the flock had positioned itself directly where I had to go. Since I have no qualms about walking through a flock of geese I just headed right where I needed to go. As I approached, the nearby geese started waddling away in the exact same direction as I was heading. As I got closer to catching up with them the closest waddlers to me started to peel off into a direction perpendicular to my route, thereby opening up a channel through the flock for me. This pattern continued until I emerged from the opposite side of the flock. It was very much like the parting of the Red Sea. Except instead of being a sea it was geese, and instead of being red they were.......uhm, Canadian.
